Tour 6 - Temples, Borders, Casinos & Anlong Veng

Siem Reap – Prasat Banteay Chhmar – Samrong/Osmacht – Anlong Veng

3 day, 2 nights

Challenge:

2 and a bit stars, moderate riding on new, unpaved and paved, flat national road, some challenging bridges.  Fairly straight run. 3 days hard riding, good distances covered to complete a full circle.

Tour Summary:

This tour dips into the northwest of the country talking in three provinces; Banteay Meanchey, Odar Meanchey and Siem Reap. By traveling parallel to the border of Thailand, riders get a taste of history and a feel for life in this area. It has recently opened a lot with new roads and increased trade with Thailand. A lot of de-mining has been done in this area. Good food and accommodation throughout. Stunning mountain paved path from Samrong to Osmacht.

Day 1:

Depart Siem Reap, travel east to lunch in Sisophon and travel over 160 km to the pretty village of Banteay Chhmar & temple. Overnight in either a local guesthouse in Samrong, the pretty provincial capital of Odar Meanchey or further to Osmacht, an International border crossing and Osmacht Casino* for lux accommodation and a spot of gambling.

Full days travel with breaks, over 200km distance. There is an opportunity to meet a small number of expats living and working in the area on various NGO projects.

Day 2:

Late start expected and direct to Anlong Veng, last stronghold of the Khmer Rouge for your second night. Travel up the Dangrek Escarpment. Extensive tour of the mountain, have dinner locally & overnight in a mountain camp. 3 hours travel.

Day 3:

Tour of Ta Mok’s villa and the town before returning to Siem Reap completing a full circle. 3/4 hours travel.
